Liberation Protests Dream Girl Contest

Subject

Sex Discrimination

Description

Roberta Salper, chosen representative of the women's liberation movement at Pittsburgh, released a statement to the Pitt News and Publications, due to being unable to attend the actual contest. The statement discusses the use of the contest as a way to objectify women, as well as defining and reinforcing the outdated definitions of femininity, and pose the question as to why the "ideal" American woman is focused on physical beauty and talents, rather than intelligence.
