Symposium on Feminism

Title

Symposium on Feminism

Description

In September of 1970, the university organized a Symposium on Feminism with much support from student organizations like the Associated Women Students (AWS). Many guest speakers attended, such as Sheila Tobias, Associate Provost at Wesleyan University. She spoke on the importance of female studies and women's' absence from history due to a lack of women studies programs. This symposium led to further discussions and luncheons on the status of women in the health profession and many national leaders like Naiomi Gray and Kate Millett came to Pitt to continue talking about the feminist effort. The AWS co-sponsored all of the programs that brought attention to students on how they could become involved.
