Establishment of ACWO

Dublin Core

Title

Establishment of ACWO

Description

Pressure from the University Committee for Women's Rights resulted in forcing the Pitt administrations to look at the status of women within the university. The university submitted a study to the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) that will determine if Pitt will lose funding for their actions. On July 21, 1970 Chancellor Posvar decided to also combat this issue by creating the Advisory Committee on Women's Opprotunity. They will examine findings of his study initiated previously in May, which looked at how Pitt was treating women in the areas of educational programs, career opportunities, and offered services. The ACWO would eventually become one of the major players in establishing a women studies program at Pitt.
